What is the level of investment?

The Agriculture Sector is the mainstay of the economy. Agriculture is the engine of economic growth in Kenya.  About 75% of Kenyans earn all or part of their income from this sector.  Agriculture accounts for 33% of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The sector comprises crop production (industrial & food crops), horticulture, livestock, fisheries, and forestry. Production of crops and horticulture contributes 76.5% of Agriculture GDP followed by livestock production at 4.9%.

There are joint venture opportunities for foreign investors seeking local counterparts. Between 90% and 95% of horticultural produce is consumed or used locally, while the remaining produce is exported.  In 2014, the total domestic value of the horticulture sector amounted to 196 billion Kenyan shillings. Thus, the domestic horticulture market offers huge opportunities for investment and growth.
