The horticulture industry provides livelihoods for 6 million people in Kenya. Today, 350,000 people are employed directly in farms involved in export, while about 3 million people benefit through other related activities along the value chain.
Companies are empowering staff through policy reviews, trainings, promotions, and the creation of structures such as gender-based committees. They also provide food at the farm, transport, medical, childcare services. Moreover, employees receive bonuses, overtime, and other non-monetary rewards, including solar panels and household items among others.
